Index Card Thoughts

One of the best things about doing mundane tasks like folding towels is that it gives my mind a chance to wander - and wander it does. It can go from “I need to pay my bills” to “a flock of birds is cloud confetti” in moments. Everyone of them is an inspiration, even if a small one.

To capture these mini-inspirations I’ve taken to writing them on index cards and I think of them as “index card thoughts.” I have a little stack of index cards and a black pen in every room in the house to write them down on. I recently discovered that they have little waterproof tablets to capture the thoughts that I get in the shower. Genius invention!

For me most inspiration comes in drips and drops but sometimes I get that flash of lightning. One second I am minding my own business and then suddenly I think, “Oh! Here is a major project that I should do!”

Whatever the size, the thing that has really increased both kinds of inspiration for me is daily meditation such as those in Creative Thinking class. Meditation puts me in touch with Spiritual Wisdom which changes my perspective of myself and the world around me.

Sitting down to meditate makes me the gardener; the energy of the meditation is the seed; and the change in perspective and increased inspiration is the fruit. As Fruitful Wisdom says, “We are the gardener, the seed, and the fruit.”
