chaos>art<order

When something is just a little out of focus, that’s a doorway to creativity. A slip of the tongue, a moment of not recognizing something, a typographical error can all dislodge us from our patterns of order and help us to see what we usually don’t see.

Our mind’s ability to make patterns can lock us into habits of order. But jarred out of its habits - even for a moment- the mind can create a new pattern. Stephen Sondheim once said that art is creating order out of chaos. And while that is true, sometimes we have to create a little chaos out of order first.
